Trains, a month of work on the Rome-Florence high-speed line: changes to circulation

Night work from 22 June to 29 July. Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, Intercity and regional trains involved

For about a month, from 22 June to 29 July, the Rome – Florence high-speed line will be the subject of modernization and technological renewal works which will lead to changes to the train circulation program during the night hours.

These are, as RFI explains, functional interventions for the upgrade of the ERTMS (European Rail Transport Management System), the most advanced for the supervision and control of train spacing. Compared to traditional signaling systems, ERTMS technology guarantees higher performance, a containment of management and maintenance costs and a significant improvement in the quality of service and regularity of circulation, with greater infrastructural reliability and optimization of management in case of abnormalities. These assets, with a total value of approximately 200 million euroswill see busy approximately 100 workers and technicians from RFI and other contracting companies.

The activities will take place at night (from 10.05pm to 5.05am), in June, on 22/23, 23/24, 29/30 and 30/1 July, and on 13/14, 14/15, 20/21, 21 /22, 27/28, 28/29 July.

The trains involved will be the following:

Some Frecciarossa and Frecciargento trains on the Venice–Rome/Naples, Turin/Milan–Rome lines, Naples–FlorenceMilan-Reggio C., Genoa-Rome, in transit in the time slot affected by the works, will undergo timetable changes with an increase in travel times of up to one hour.

The InterCity train 1579 of the line Prato Centrale–Roma Termini and the InterCity Night trains Rome–San Candido, Rome–Trieste and Salerno–Turin will undergo timetable changes. InterCity Night trains Milan–Syracuse, and vice versa, will undergo route changes with the cancellation of the Florence Campo di Marte stop and partial timetable changes.

Some Trenitalia regional trains on the Florence/Chiusi–Rome lines, Ancona–Rome and Rome–Terni will undergo timetable and route changes.
