Port of Genoa, indefinite strike at the Genoa Metal Terminal

The 55 employees of the Steinweg group company complain of a hostile and oppressive climate towards workers. Tuesday a meeting with the ADSP commissioner, Seno

Genoa – There has been a strike in the port of Genoa since last Wednesday Genoa Metal Terminal of the Steinweg group and to the warehouses of the subsidiary Csm. The 55 operational employees stopped to protest against a “hostile and oppressive” climate and the stop will continue until next Tuesday included, a day on which a meeting has already been called at Palazzo San Giorgio with the new extraordinary commissioner of the Port System Authority, Admiral Massimo Seno, to examine the situation.

The representatives of Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl and Uiltrasporti they explain that the decision to go on an all-out strike came “due to the precarious safety conditions reported several times, the non-existent union relations and the attitudes perceived by employees as hostile and oppressive, which for some “inconvenient” workers resulted in illegitimate dismissals”.

The unions and the RSU already had a brief conversation with Seno yesterdayon the occasion of the demonstration under the headquarters of the institution, but the discussion will only enter into substance on Tuesday.

“In the meeting we will bring to attention the issues that led us to the strike – comments Marco Pietrasanta, of Filt-Cgil and we will try to find solutions that can restore working conditions of serenity and safety and resolve the issue of the layoffs that have occurred”.

The situation has tightened in recent months. Employees speak of a “heavy climate” in which it is difficult to work, amidst protests and fear of losing their jobs. “These workers who have contributed significantly, despite the problems of recent years, to the ever new company production records – the unions explain in a note -, are receiving in exchange a company attitude that is no longer acceptable. Therefore, let’s say enough to this situation.”
