Livorno, 22 June 2024 – Condolences from the Municipal Administration for the passing away yesterday at the age of 77 of Maria Torrigiani, a leading figure of Livorno culture, a cultured, witty, ironic woman.
Singer of popular music, founder of the musical group Piccolo Insieme, historic member and president of the Artisti del Coro Associati and Coro Lirico Toscano choirs, journalist by profession, she had been press officer of the Province of Livorno and in recent years had taken care of the press office of the ‘Mascagni Musical Institute.
Mayor Luca Salvetti wants to remember her like this: “I remember the splendid collaborations when she was responsible for the press office of the Province, in the various television programs promoting the territory. And then the beauty of listening to her sing and play in various initiatives linked to history and Livorno tradition. The political dialogue we had over the last five years in a chat I had with her and which I jealously guard is also beautiful.”
“Maria Torrigiani was a sensitive and cultured musician – adds the councilor for Culture Simone Lenzi – and a person who was very dear to us. For a year she had been part of the toponymy commission of our city. We are close to the family and to all those, many, who had known her and loved her.”

The Group of Ten, in 1964, performed at the Gran Guardia for the anniversary of the Liberation, the show was called “And then Italy is resurrected”. Afterwards the group was received in the Municipality by Mayor Badaloni.
