After the temporary opening of the construction sites on the occasion of the Formula 1, when an influx of thousands of tourists and fans was expected and actually occurred, the green areas of Piazzale Marabini in front of the station were closed. It was the Municipality itself that urged RFI, owner of the construction sites, to open the spaces for that occasion. Once the critical period had passed, however, the orange nets reappeared even where the flowerbeds seemed completed and the benches had been placed. «The construction site in fact still lacks finishes – they explain from RFI -, the temporary opening was made to meet the specific request of the Municipality for the F1 weekend». The construction site will therefore remain delimited throughout the summer and autumn will probably be the season in which even the station’s residential users, commuters, students and travellers, will be able to fully enjoy the renovated spaces.
What is there and what is missing
As RFI summarizes, so far all the road works have been completed and handed over to the Municipality: the construction of the parking stalls including those for the disabled, the taxi parking area, the “kiss and ride” lane, new stalls for buses and for the Polfer, the new shelter for the pedestrian and cycle underpass that leads to the tracks and that for the taxis have also been built, the first however lacks the covering and the second the coverings which will be laid in the coming months and harmonized with each other. RFI has already delivered the new functional lighting system to the Municipality. In the green areas of Piazzale Marabini, the flowerbeds, gravel paths and benches already appear in order, but “the finishes” and tests are missing, and will therefore not be usable for a few months.
