A petition for urban safety addressed to the mayor of Terni Stefano Bandecchi, prefect and police commissioner, which encompasses the anger and frustration of an entire neighborhood. It bears the signature of around a hundred residents of Sant’Agnese, between via Eugenio Chiesa, via Bezzecca and via Curio Dentato, exhausted from living amidst drug dealing, fights, vandalism and the occupation of buildings. The request: more controls and security.

Safety In the letter, the residents review the problems of the neighborhood, starting from the latest events. «On the night between 5 and 6 June, some groups made up of boys and two girls, present in the neighborhood for some time, damaged some cars parked in the area of via Rosselli and between via Calatafimi and via Volturno and destroyed waste collection tubs. some waste”. The result? Cars with broken windows and torn windshield wipers. On the evening of June 9th, however, “groups of people faced each other in a violent argument that lasted over time and affected various areas of the neighborhood and surrounding areas”.

Drugs and occupations However, these are just some of the “worrying episodes” that citizens have witnessed. And the review continues like this: «Damage to some waste bins which were torn up and thrown into the Serra stream bed, together with a bicycle, and along the streets; clash between groups of people along via Andrea Costa in May”. An event that they describe as “not occasional”, indeed it had already occurred previously in the same way. And again «drug dealing in full view of everyone; movement of people in a clear state of alteration”. A separate chapter is that of the reports regarding «the frequent abandonment of domestic waste in various corners of public streets, evidence of illegal or non-regularized residences» and «the use of private and public spaces, degraded and abandoned, as places for accumulation of bulky waste to carry out bodily needs, with serious consequences from a hygienic-sanitary point of view”. They also denounce the “illegal occupation of buildings, currently uninhabited, in via Bezzecca”.

The requests «Given all this, the resident citizens ask that suitable measures be put in place to prevent further dangerous episodes for the safety of the citizens themselves, as also guaranteed by the Constitution of the Italian Republic». In particular, among the requests to the mayor, police commissioner and prefect «a greater and more constant presence of law enforcement in the area with interventions not only in a repressive but also preventive manner and which are able to arrive promptly in case of need» . But also the installation of surveillance cameras on public streets and cross-checks on possible illegal rentals. But above all, “the implementation of all appropriate measures to relieve residents from constant situations of danger to people and things”.
