Different on everything. Two ideas of the city and even two different pieces of music to close the electoral campaign. Marialuisa Forte chooses the songwriting, Ado De Benedittis the jazz. In front of two different peoples and in two different squares, the mayoral candidate of the progressive front, welded to the civic construction site, and that of the center-right closed one of the most fiery electoral campaigns ever for the conquest of the municipality of Campobasso. We vote on Sunday and Monday and on Monday evening, hopefully in time to watch Italy’s match, we will know who will have won the run-off round decided by the voters on 8 and 9 June.
First to open was Marialuisa Forte in Piazza Municipio, her speech opened by contributions arriving from the national front with the support of various political leaders: Elly Schlein, first of all, and then Giuseppe Conte, Ruotolo, Tridico, Decaro, Bonaccini, Bonelli , Fratoianni, Roberta Mori, Pierluigi Bersani. The heart of the final speech was the theme of differentiated autonomy which would endanger the existence and subsistence of the South. A reform to be opposed and which forcefully entered the electoral campaign. And then the vexed question, the puzzle of the seats in the city council are still to be assigned. According to Marialuisa Forte and her traveling companions, first and foremost Ruta and Romano, the calculations for the assignment of the thirty-two seats in Palazzo San Giorgio are still to be done and all possibilities are open. So no lame duck taken for granted according to Forte and co.
On the other hand, the entire compact center-right took the field alongside Aldo De Benedittis: a phalanx of parliamentarians, councilors and regional councilors. All the party secretaries present: Di Sandro, Niro, Marone, Cofelice, Di Pietro; MEP Aldo Patriciello was present with the ticket to Brussels already in his pocket; Senator Claudio Lotito was present and was the protagonist of an explosion and detonation that set the square alight. Also present, and it could not have been otherwise, was the President of the Region Francesco Roberti who on several occasions contrasted the unity of the center-right with the forced alliance – it has been said – between Marialuisa Forte and Pino Ruta. Also joining the centre-right parterre was the national secretary of Forza Italia, deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, who reiterated the validity of the project presented by the centre-right and embodied by Aldo De Benedittis.
The latter was given the final speech at the heart of which is the theme that accompanied the entire electoral campaign: the institutional chain: that is, the added value determined by a homogeneous institutional chain expressed by a single coalition and which, starting from territory reaches as far as Brussels.
De Benedittis then returned to the theme of numbers: we are a majority in the City Council without a shadow of denial, he said. One voter out of two chose me, seven out of ten did not choose Forte. This is the political concept expressed in arithmetic terms.
Now the curtain closes, mouths are sewn shut. Vote on Sunday and Monday and on Monday evening we will know who, between Aldo De Benedittis and Marialuisa Forte, will be the new mayor of Campobasso.
