Record heat in Sicily, temperatures close to 40 degrees: the anticyclone Minos arrives

Orange-label temperatures in Sicily. Between Palermo and Catania, Agrigento and Syracuse the charging station could even exceed 40 degrees

Intense heat in Sicily with temperatures well above 30 degrees on the island. To Agrigento and Syracuse, peaks above 39-40 degrees are expected during the week. TO Sciacca today the temperature will be stationary at 34 degrees, while in the evening around 24 degrees are expected (according to forecasts from IlMeteo.it). Tomorrow the temperature will begin to drop and the maximum peak in Sciacca will be 30 degrees.

Temperatures will rise due to the arrival of the anticyclone Minos which will rage on the southern and Ionian coasts, but also on the Tyrrhenian Sea. The skies will be clear throughout today, while light winds in the East could blow over the Lower Tyrrhenian Sea and the Sicilian Channel, which will be little moved.

Between Palermo and Catania instead the maximum perceived temperature should be 35 degrees, 36 in the Etna capital, and again 35 degrees in Messina. Temperatures will be stationary, but in all capitals including Agrigento (where, as mentioned, between 38 and 40 degrees are expected), Messina, Enna, Ragusa, Trapani and Caltanissetta the column exceeded 35 degrees.

There is growing concern about the fire alert. The risk was exposed in a note from the Civil Protection, with great attention to Palermo indicated with the orange dot.

How long will the heat wave last

Since Friday the anticyclone it should begin to move up the country. Therefore, between Thursday and Friday temperatures will begin to stabilize at 36 degrees, and then gradually decrease.

The risk, in addition to that relating to fires, is for the health of the most vulnerable, children and the elderly. The advice is always the same, drink lots of water up to 3 liters a day, ensure an adequate temperature in the car, take mineral salts and not consume alcohol when temperatures exceed 35 degrees, especially in case of prolonged exposure to the sun.
