contract worth 6 million and 100 thousand euros

VENICE – A contract worth six million and 100 thousand euros to equip the operations rooms in the tunnels of the Moses of fiber optic cabling.

The contract identifying: was signed in recent days by all the interlocutors involved Open Fiber the entity that will be responsible for the creation of the telecommunications infrastructure, following the announcement by Commissioner Elisabetta Spitz in November last year, on the sidelines of a technical-administrative committee.
The Italian company operates in the FTTH network infrastructure market for the laying of fiber optic cables and is already active in the Venice lagoon. He will now have 18 months to complete the surgery starting now. So by 2026 the underground tunnels should finally be wired, connected to each other and to the Arsenal control room.

This type of cabling will be implementation (precisely, “redundancy”) with respect to the communications currently guaranteed by the Telespazio system, which has taken over, with a 24-month contract signed last September, the activity of the Army which since the first liftings, in 2020, had made the radio link available, an instrument already used in wartime. The MOSE telecommunications system – which is considered a strategic work at a national level and will therefore be subjected to rigorous cybersecurity procedures – is a fundamental piece because it allows the connections and synchronization of the barrier automation systems.

But the procurement process had been particularly bumpy, between deserted tenders and private negotiations in which the supply and demand conditions were gradually changed. Also because technologies vary at an incredible speed, and from time to time the object of the contract had to be updated and modified.

THE NAVIGATION LOCKS

Yesterday was an important day for Chioggia, where the second door of the second navigation lock was installed.

Locks which will be used for the transit of boats even when the Mose gates are raised in case of bad weather, but which are not yet ready for now. Tools long overdue, considering the problems encountered especially by fishermen in winter. It had happened, in fact, that in conditions of high water the Chioggia fleet had remained locked “outside” at sea, without being able to return through the mouth of the port of Chioggia, with the alternative of returning by going around the Malamocco basin or wait for the water to descend and therefore for the lowering of the mobile barriers in Chioggia.

While “blank” tests are currently underway for the first lock, i.e. the technical ones to evaluate the correctness of the opening and closing systems (but without the passage of ships, for now), the second is still in its infancy. In fact, the systems that will allow its control and movement will have to be mounted on this, and in principle it should be ready for the autumn, to begin the blank tests here too and subsequently agree the procedures with the Port Authority .
