Tour de France, Bologna wrapped in 16 km of yellow ribbon. This is how you will access San Luca, two giant screens

BOLOGNA From Saturday Bologna will be decorated with a 16 kilometer long yellow ribbon. The bicycle ring road along the avenues, the downtown streets crossed by the race such as via Irnerio and Sant’Isaia, but also the porticoes of San Luca which will accompany the runners’ effort twice: everything in yellow to best greet the Grande Boucle next June 30th. “A pharaonic dressing project”, he defines it Mattia Santori illustrating today together with the mayor Matteo Lepore and to the ‘architect’ of the Cesenatico-Bologna stage Davide Cassani the latest news on the event.

For enthusiasts there will be two points organized to follow the second stage of the 2024 Tour: in Piazza VIII Agosto for the arrival and at the Orfanelle curve along the two kilometer climb towards San Luca. In VIII one of the two giant screens will be placed (the other will be in San Luca) where it will be possible to follow the Rai live broadcast of the entire stage, with commentary by Cassani himself.

While the Montagnola will be off-limits because it will host the technical village for the athletes, in the square there will be a village (in the shade) for the fans managed by Confesercenti. In August 8th also the control room where the event will be managed from the point of view of public order. On the San Luca climb, a “large arena at the Orfanelle curve” has been planned, with live coverage of the stage, toilets and official merchandising.

An anti-glass ordinance will be issued for San Luca “for the safety of runners and fans”, as Santori, responsible for major events for Palazzo d’Accursio, further explains. But along the Unesco portico there are “Peroni points” where you can quench your thirst. At Meloncello there will also be filtering of access, “not because there is a limited number but to ensure that there is not an exaggerated flow”, explains Santori.

Surprise guest at the press conference was Lorenzo Fortunato from Bologna, winner of the Zoncolan in the 2021 tour, connected during a training session. “It’s a dream that the tour passes through Bologna – says the Astana cyclist – unfortunately I won’t be there but I always train in San Luca, it will be a hard and difficult stage. Who will win? I don’t feel like saying a dry name, according to me someone you don’t expect.” Cassani has fewer hesitations: “I say Mathieu van der Poel, the world champion. But Roglic and Pogacar, who will be the man to beat on the tour, could also win the Bologna stage”.
