The candidate for mayor of Florence, Eike Schmidt, published his idea regarding the stadium theme on his social channels with the intention of abandoning the restyling project to build a new facility that can host Fiorentina. These are his statements:
“This morning I went to Minister Guido Crosetto to resolve the stadium issue.
In fact, in Florence there are areas of the Ministry of Defence, such as the former Perotti barracks in Coverciano, which could host the new Fiorentina stadium.
The PD councils have never worked on it, preferring to venture into unlikely solutions, without financial backing, models left on the table, promises betrayed.
Thats enough.
Fiorentina fans have the right to a stadium worthy of the name, the club’s sporting project needs an adequate structure to grow.
The Minister has assured me that he will look at the areas that we put to him.
We will make peace with the ownership of Fiorentina and in a few years Florence will have a new stadium worthy of the city and its team.”
