The wolf becomes a friend of the winemakers

Those feared close encounters with wolves turn into pleasant sightings near the vines, between Umbria and Tuscany. Antonio Donato, director of the Cerro estates, tells it to the Ansa.it website in an article created by the Perugia editorial team.

«They are truly precious – he explains -, they keep wildlife away, which becomes harmful to the vineyards especially in the first vegetative phase of the vine. We have several specimens of wolves on our estates and they are absolutely respectful of the environment in which they live.”

Their presence is therefore not perceived as a threat and more and more often these wolves approach from the woods bordering the countryside, to the point of being immortalized in broad daylight by those present with their smartphones. It is known that another component of the Italian agricultural sector continues to perceive the wolf as a threat. Sheep or goat farmers report attacks on their livestock and considerable damage to their flocks. However, there are deterrent systems, such as ultrasonic collars which have the function of deterring certain types of predators. Interesting experiments are carried out in various parts of Italy to safeguard agricultural businesses and protect the environment.
