Street educators have increased in number. The Lozer school, before the end of lessons, implemented various actions to limit the excesses of some “terrible” children. Yet with the first signs of summer the problems have returned to the center of the neighborhood. Complete with planters being targeted and noise until just before dawn which woke up those who live around Piazza Lozer. «And it’s alarming – explained a resident -, because in this case they were kids who had just arrived at middle school. So very young.”

WHAT HAPPENED

It was just after four in the morning. Before dawn on a quiet Tuesday like any other. Suddenly he screams, shouts, and Piazza Lozer wakes up with a start. «A little girl – the resident who reported the case later clarified – but unfortunately it happens too often now. And like all working people, we need sleep.” It was still dark in Torre. The protagonists of the “ravel”? Some very young people from the neighborhood, probably members of that group that have already come under the scrutiny of the school, parents and Municipality several times. The problem, however, was not only represented by the disturbance of the peace. The young people who “conquered” Piazza Lozer before dawn, in fact, first took the bags that are made available to the dog owners to collect the excrement of the four-legged friends and subsequently used them as water balloons. And up to this point we perhaps remain in the field of joking. Shortly afterwards, however, they tore the flowers from the planters that adorn the square.

THE PROTESTS

The Municipality is doing a lot to intervene in Torre and limit the excesses of the younger people who have been “staining” the neighborhood for some time. But there can’t be eyes everywhere. On the other side, however, there are the residents. Some of which can’t take it anymore. “A couple of weeks ago – the testimony continues – the same group of young and very young people literally tore up a gutter in Piazza Lozer”. We therefore return to the acts of vandalism already reported by the citizens of the neighborhood and which city politics has already dealt with, both in the form of debate and with actual measures. «As a mother – explains the resident – I confess to being worried lately. There are some difficult contexts in the neighborhood and we cannot turn our heads the other way and pretend nothing happened.”

Pordenone. The Torre “gang”: those middle school kids who “beat each other to challenge each other”

THE ANSWERS

«We make street educators and the network of our youth services available – said the deputy mayor Alberto Parigi at the end of a summit on safety in Torre which was staged with the school management of the Lozer middle school -: from healthy aggregative activities and educational services after school for those in difficulty, up to, if necessary, the local police. I hope these kids and their families take advantage of this effort.” Subsequently, the decision was also made to increase the forces in the field, sending more street educators to deal with the most difficult situations.
