Bologna, Holm reserve or Posch alternative?

Among the critical issues that can easily be identified in the Bologna squad, that of an alternative right winger to Stefan Posch is one of the most important. The rossoblù squad lacks a reliable right winger. Of course Lorenzo De Silvestri is a fundamental locker room man, a player who responds and is almost always present, but he certainly cannot be an alternative capable of not making the Austrian regret it. Especially next year which will be played on important stages such as the Champions League, in which it will always be necessary to be at the top of one’s capabilities to avoid making a bad impression.

This is why Emil Holm, among the names that have emerged for Bologna’s right wing, is certainly the name that most teases. Indeed, what is evidently the most interesting to complete the squad both in terms of technical level, experience and potential.

Holm, much more than a reserve for Bologna

The former Spezia winger was not bought out by Atalanta at the end of this season. The Swede’s season hasn’t been sparkling. However, Holm had to deal with major competition such as that of Hateboer and sometimes that of Zappacosta. The Goddess, then, seems to want to focus on a player with different characteristics and perhaps of an even higher level. However, this does not mean that Holm’s is a failure. On the other hand, there are many reasons why a team decides not to buy a player. And Bologna could seize this opportunity.

The Swede, meanwhile, is a 24-year-old athlete, in full health, who has also definitively overcome an annoying problem such as groin pain. He is fresh from his first European season, in which he was not a protagonist, but still made his contribution to the Bergamo team’s historic success in the Europa League. This experience of his can be useful from a Champions League perspective. If only Emil, like Freuler and a few others in Bologna, already knows what it means to manage the forces of three weekly commitments.

What can Holm give that Posch doesn’t have

First of all it must be said that Holm, compared to Posch, was born as an outsider. The Austrian obviously had knowledge of the full-back role in his background, but remains primarily a centre-back. Although he has excellent technical characteristics, Posch is more suited to playing as a central defender, perhaps as a wingman. And, despite the excellent push support offered in the first season in the rossoblù with Thiago Motta, it is not exactly his comfort zone. Especially because Stefan doesn’t have the speed, leg and agility to be a pure winger.

Holm, on the other hand, as we have already said in our profile, is a player with great legs, unexpectedly fast and agile for his size. The former Göteborg player is a player capable of playing in constant offensive projection, who knows how to attack spaces. Furthermore, his physical strength allows him to be particularly exuberant in attack. In fact, these characteristics have allowed him to express himself well even as a full-back, despite being more comfortable in the role of full-back.

Building a squad that offers two options like Posch and Holm in the right-back position would allow Vincenzo Italiano to have two different players who can alternate according to the team’s needs. A luxury that only a great team could not only afford, but could think of.
