He rescues a stranded motorist along the A27, hit and killed by a lorry

Work tragedy this afternoon, 18 June, along the A27 motorway in the Fadalto area, after the Vittorio Veneto nord toll booth, towards Belluno. A worker, Vasile Iosif, a 41-year-old from Breda di Piave, of foreign origins who had stopped to help a motorist who had broken down on the side of the road was hit and killed by a heavy vehicle in transit, a truck. The 41-year-old was dragged for hundreds of metres, dying instantly due to the serious injuries sustained in the crash. Doctors and nurses from Suem 118 could not help but confirm the death of the man, a worker at De Zottis in Saletto: the man was reaching a construction site along the motorway where he would shortly begin his work shift. The traffic police officers from the A27 detachment intervened for the findings. Traffic suffered heavy delays. De Zottis had already been struck by a similar tragedy ten years ago, on 29 July 2014: two workers, Francesco Villacci, 28 years old from Breda di Piave and Mauro Camerotto, 47 years old from Maserada, were hit and killed by a truck along the Mestre bypass, at the Mirano exit.

«No later than 24 hours ago – after the case that happened in Venice – we reported that there is no sector of the world of work free from risks. And the tragic confirmation arrived a little while ago, with the news of a fatal accident on the A27, between Vittorio Veneto and Fadalto. An operator was hit while reporting the presence of a broken down car. As we gather around the family and colleagues of the missing worker, we shout out our anger at this latest death at work. We will ask for an urgent meeting with the institutions, employers and social parties: the signs of a decline in the number of deaths and injuries are too timid, an extraordinary and joint effort is needed to obtain more significant results”. This is the declaration of the general secretary of Uil Veneto Roberto Toìgo after this afternoon’s accident on the A27 motorway.

At 4pm a serious accident was also recorded in Mareno di Piave, along via Ungaresca, with a head-on collision between two vehicles, a car and a tractor. The toll speaks of one seriously injured man, a 64-year-old from Loreggia, BL, who was transported by helicopter to Ca’ Foncello in Treviso.
