What is Recopet

Recopet is the first of the Consortium’s projects planned in Sicily which, with a separate waste collection per capita equal to 24.9 kilos, in line with the national average of 25 kilos, is preparing to welcome important flows of visitors again this summer and therefore needs to make the territory ready to attract tourists increasingly oriented towards a culture of sustainability.

The initiative is part of a series of actions aimed at combating the dispersion of waste in the environment with the aim of raising citizens’ awareness to carry out correct separate waste collection and contribute to increasing awareness of how plastic can represent a resource for everyone, if correctly recycled, and to preserve the important Sicilian artistic and naturalistic heritage.

Cassuti: “Happy with the path undertaken”

“We are very happy with the journey we have made so far and to have also arrived in the capital of this beautiful region,” he declared Giovanni Cassuti, President of Corepla.

“Up to now, over 1 million PET bottles have been sent for recycling thanks to the widespread installation of our eco-compactors throughout the national territory, a synergistic work that rewards the efforts made in the field of circular economy and consolidates the Italian model of excellence based on recycling”.

“We are convinced that, thanks to the collaboration with the Municipality and RAP SpA, it will be possible to encourage and spread this virtuous system and further improve these important results.”

Alongi: “Challenge to win”

“We express our applause to this innovative project promoted by COREPLAin collaboration with the Municipality of Palermo and Rap” he declares the Councilor for Environmental Policies Pietro Alongi.

“This initiative is just one of many that my department is launching and supporting with a virtuous path that looks primarily at separate waste collection in line with a Green city”.

“We can only win this challenge through a collaborative path that brings together the public and private sectors, who work in synergy in the interest of the environment”.

“In particular In recent months, today’s event has seen us protagonists of a table where Rapmunicipal administration and trade associations, which represent the world of commercial catering, sign a memorandum of understanding for reward virtuous citizens with discounts, who will deliver the plastic bottles into the forty machines that will be installed in the city.”

“For all that we are aware that this path will only be successful if we manage to involve citizens and associations”.

Todaro: “It’s important to differentiate”

“Separate collection And essential condition for correct waste treatment”declares the president of Rap Giuseppe Todaro.

“It is an essential condition for correct waste treatment. If this part of the supply chain is not strengthened, any other process will prove futile. Separating and recycling means reducing the amount of material to be taken to landfill, but above all reducing waste, saving resources and protecting the environment”.

“Also for this reason – continues Todaro – we consider all activities aimed at promoting and supporting environmental policies based on the reuse and recycling of waste to be strategic. Naturally, the selective collection of PET bottles (for food use) also falls within this perspective, with the aim of recognizing a reward within the circuit that will be created very quickly, also improving citizens’ awareness”.

“The collaboration with Corepla fits perfectly in this context. Why thanks to initiatives like thisthrough the active involvement of everyone, even the smallest users, awareness and the habit of recycling and reusing waste is growing”.
