Baccalaureate exams are underway: Basilicata is among the regions with the highest number of admitted students

In Basilicata, 97.1% of students are admitted to the high school leaving exams, which begin tomorrow with the first written test in Italian

Throughout Italy, 526,317 students will be involved in the tests, with 14,072 examining commissions supervising 28,038 classes. The first written test, the Italian theme, will be the same for all fifth graders, with seven tracks to choose from, covering artistic, literary, philosophical, historical, scientific, technological, economic and social fields. The second national test will be held on 20 June on the specific subject for each course of study, such as mathematics for the scientific high school and Greek for the classical high school. Oral interviews will begin on the Monday or Tuesday following the second test, with a maximum of five candidates examined per day, concluding within the first two weeks of July. The exams assign a maximum of 100 points: up to 40 points deriving from school credit and up to 60 points for the three exam tests. Honors require unanimity of the commission. This year, students are also using Artificial Intelligence to prepare: according to a survey, one in four students uses tools like ChatGPT to revise, although only 15% use it for the written essay.

Most find it more useful for oral preparation. Tomorrow’s test will not only verify the mastery of the Italian language but will also evaluate the expressive, logical-linguistic and critical skills of the students, with a maximum duration of six hours. Among the possible tracks, students suggest themes such as the anniversary of the assassination of Giacomo Matteotti, the birth of Guglielmo Marconi and Robert Oppenheimer, climate change and artificial intelligence. Authors such as Luigi Pirandello, Gabriele D’Annunzio, Alessandro Manzoni and Giuseppe Ungaretti could also appear, along with historical anniversaries such as the First World War, the Normandy landings, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the war in Ukraine and 20 years of Facebook.
