With the proclamation, Massimo Zedda has officially become mayor of Cagliari for the third time. Today, Tuesday 18 June 2024 is the settlement in Palazzo Baccaredda is planned, in view of the formation of the new council. Massimo Zedda immediately highlighted how he was elected with 43,264 votes, a higher number than in the first round of 2011, despite the fact that in this election round he went to vote around 20% less than 13 years ago. A way to underline the value of his candidacy and the value of the Campo Largo project, as the journalist from L’Unione Sarda explains Alessandra Carta.

Cagliari: the presentation of the new council

Massimo Zedda stated that individual meetings with party representatives will begin today in view of the presentation of the new Cagliari council. The new mayor plans to present the new council by the end of the month, but much will depend on the proclamation of the councillors, when the central electoral office finishes examining all the minutes. The most probable date is June 28th, as the journalist from L’Unione Sarda told Radiolina.

The calculations of the parties

There are nine departments in total. Of these, six will be divided between the Democratic Party and the Progressives, while the remaining three will go to the allies who obtained the most votes: 5 Star Movement, Green and Left Alliance, and Future Left. According to the first hypotheses, Massimo Zedda, as leader, will assign two departments, the Progressives and the Democratic Party two each.

As regards the presidency of the council, for some it is comparable to a department, for others it is considered separately. The Democratic Party aims to obtain three departments plus the presidency, while Zedda wants to reserve the decision on two departments. According to Alessandra Carta, Massimo Zedda’s request to indicate two names derives from the need to create a high-profile council.

Cagliari: a high profile council

In this sense, Mauro Coni, key councilor in the first Zedda council, could come back into play. Among the first emergencies in Cagliari is traffic and the road system is an important department: “Zedda wants the best and needs technical appointments, which are independent of parties and find their basis in the maximum capacity”, declared Alessandra Carta.
