FANO – The events of human beings and ways of thinking are intertwined in the thematic reviews that Passaggi Festival (26/30 June) will dedicate to the themes of history and philosophy: two cycles of meetings with free entry hosted in the fifteenth-century Benedictine Cloister and in the setting of the former church of San Francesco, in the historic center.

‘History and stories’, among the novelties of the 2024 edition, it will propose four books on as many protagonists of our recent past, starting from ‘Il delitto Matteotti’ (Il Mulino) by the historian Mauro Canali (26/6) which, on the centenary of the death of the socialist deputy, convincingly outlines the ‘affair’ that was at the origin of the fascist regime. The author will talk about it with the historian of Iscop Pesaro Marco Labbate and with the representative of the Sandro Pertini club of Fano Dino Zacchilli. The book “The tax reform” (Bologna University Press) by Francesco Tundo is also dedicated to Matteotti; the author will discuss it with Gianni La Bella, professor of contemporary history at the University of Modena and Reggio, and Nando dalla Chiesa, professor of sociology of organized crime at the University of Milan and president of the Passaggi scientific committee.

Another crucial figure in Italian politics, that of Alcide De Gasperi, will be at the center of the meeting with the journalist Antonio Polito (27/6) who will present, together with Alessandra Longo, ‘The builder. De Gasperi’s five lessons to today’s politicians’ (Mondadori). ‘The man who killed Mussolini’ (Piemme) is the first work that Raffaele Di Placido, the author and television popularizer, (29/6) on stage with the television commentator Sara Manfuso: a story, between history and fiction, of the last days of the Duce and the partisan who killed him. In closing, we will learn about the story of Torello Latini from Fabriano killed by the Nazis with Gianluca Conti’s book (30/6) “The Master of Elegance” (Baldini + Castoldi) which the author will present with Nando dalla Chiesa and the vice-president of Culture Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Giorgia Latini, Torello’s niece.

The themes of the exhibition will be less tangible but equally concrete in outlining what we are ‘The philosopher’s sandals’: in the first meeting Marco Santambrogio (27/6), one of the founders of the European Society for Analytic Philosophy (ESAP) will talk to us about his essay ‘Philosophy and history. Seen by a partial philosopher full of prejudices” (The Ship of Theseus) which calls into question the historicist approach of Italian school education; Laura Macchi (28/6) professor of Psychology of thought will explain to us how rhetoric influences thought and decisions in “Psychoretorica. From the art of saying to the form of thought” (Raffaello Cortina Editore); Armando Massarenti (30/6) philosopher and cultural journalist will close the event with the presentation of his book “How we became stupid. An immodest proposal to become intelligent again” (Guerini and Associates) in conversation with the director of Passaggi Festival Giovanni Belfiori and the literary critic Carolina Iacucci. The entire program is on Passaggifestival.it.
