More waste abandoned in the Villa Comunale “Unit of Italy” in Matera. Bags of wet waste, old bags, shoes and even knives and hammers: this and more were found in the areas adjacent to urban waste bins, demonstrating the total incivility of some citizens who deface a place frequented by children, elderly people and families looking for relaxation .
The complaint from the authorities
The mayor Domenico Bennardi and the Urban Hygiene councilor Massimiliano Amenta are the ones reporting for the umpteenth time, who firmly condemn these behaviors. “It is a very serious fact – they say – which persists despite the installation of four new surveillance cameras, useful for the safety of citizens but not capable of combating the abandonment of waste, which is an administrative and not criminal violation.”
The cameras, in fact, serve to prevent crimes against people, while the abandonment of waste falls within the scope of administrative sanctions.
The appeal to common sense
“For this reason – continue Bennardi and Amenta – we once again ask citizens to respect the Villa Comunale and dispose of waste correctly. We don’t want to transform this green space into a militarized zone, but if the incivility persists, we will be forced to close the villa in the evening, coinciding with the start of summer and the Bruna festival. It’s a decision we don’t want to make, but one that may be unavoidable if the problem isn’t resolved.”
The sanctions
Since November 2023 there has been a tightening of the fine to be paid, but also of the legal nature of the sanction: now the private citizen who abandons waste will no longer commit an administrative offence, but an infringement and therefore a criminal offence, like companies and of the Entities, and he will therefore be imposed a criminal sanction, no longer an administrative sanction.
