Caltanissetta, Piazzale del Comando is now Largo Fiamme Gialle

CALTANISSETTA – Un special anniversary that of Nissene Yellow Flames. On the occasion of the 250th year since the foundation of the Guardia di Finanza, the ceremony took place naming of the square in front of the driveway entrance of the Barracks “Cap. Enrico Franco”, which will now be known as “Largo Fiamme Gialle”. One widening that after more than forty years of abandonment is returned to the citizens.




Present for the occasion, in addition to the city authorities, were the interregional commander of South Western Italy of the Guardia di Finanza, general of the army corps Rosario Lorusso and the regional commander of Sicily, general of division Cosimo Di Gesù.









During the short but heartfelt ceremony, together with the prefect and the mayor of Caltanissetta, he spoke the interregional commander of south-western Italy of the Financial Police, Rosario Lorusso.

For the occasion, Lorusso recalled how naming a city street after the Fiamme Gialle is customary in many Italian cities where the Corps barracks are located and recalled the memory of the soldiers of the Alpine Rescue of the Guardia di Finanza, who recently fell on duty in the province of Sondrio, and the sacrifice of the financier Sc. Scontrino, who died in Caltanissetta during the bombings of July 1943.




For the occasion, the national councilor of the national association of Italian financiers for Sicily, General B. Umberto Rocco, handed over the meritorious member card to Maria Grazia Vagliasindi, former president of the Court of Appeal of Caltanissetta.




The president then underlined the infungibility of the Financial Police as an economic-financial garrison of the country, and the body’s irreplaceable contribution to all the activities of the judicial order in the criminal and civil fields.

To discover the toponymic plaque of naming the Largo Fiamme Gialle the prefect, together with the interregional commander, the regional commander of Sicily and the mayor, with the solemn blessing officiated by Monsignor Onofrio Castelli, vicar general of the bishop and by the military chaplain Don Antonino Pozzo, who recited the prayer of financier.

The ceremony concluded with the delivery, by Rosario Gentile, president of the Xirbi fire-fighting civic volunteer association, of an olive tree intended for the “repopulation” of the Franco barracks park, as part of the polis ecological redevelopment project .
