Brindisi, 16 June 2024: the “ordeal” of the police forces sent on a mission to Brindisi for the G-7 summit has finally come to an end, forced to stay on ships that were in rather shameful conditions, so much so as to put them at real risk the safety and health of staff.

USMIA Carabinieri General Secretary Carmine Caforioafter the complaint arising from the serious accommodation and organizational deficiencies which have put the psychophysical resistance and well-being of hundreds of women and men in uniform to the test, states: “The great success of the G-7 summit, today heralded by politicians, does not can erase the hardships and suffering endured by the hundreds of women and men in uniform they have overcome – in a commendable way and in conditions of “exceptional criticality”- all the obstacles caused by an embarrassing series of evident administrative and management inertia currently being examined by the Judiciary”.
Inhumane conditions for a “war mission” in peacetime
“Despite the ample time available to better plan and organize this important mission of international interest and although we live in peacetime, we were housed in dilapidated environments as if we had been recruited, from day to night, to face a mission of “war”. These are the indignant declarations – collected on the Brindisi pier – of the police personnel. So – adds and wonders Caforio: “Now who will “compensate” for the damage caused by the psychophysical stress suffered by our Carabinieri due to inadequate nutrition, poor rest and often endless shifts?”
The appeal to Justice and the sensitivity of politics
There is only one answer – Caforio always states – which could give credit to those who, once again, have concretely demonstrated self-sacrifice and a high sense of responsibility towards the institutions: “Justice, through the investigation launched by the Judiciary to identify the causes and above all those responsible for these serious inconveniences – with consequent economic and image damage to all State Administrations – and a dutiful sensitivity of the political leaders towards the police forces.
The unanimous appeal to the Ministers for formal and monetary rewards
USMIA Carabinieriready to document the exceptional and incessant contribution made by the personnel employed in the various tasks which guaranteed – together with the other Police Forces – the escort, traffic and security services to the high officials of the States involved in the G-7, addresses a unanimous appeal to the Ministers of the Interior and Defense to order, through an extraordinary provision addressed to the various Administrations involved, the launch of reward proposals – formal and in money – towards all the Police Forces who, despite everything, managed to complete – effectively and efficiently – the mission entrusted to them, overcoming the inertia demonstrated by some managers who in “suit and tie, chauffeur, luxury cars and 5-star hotels” have forgotten that under a uniform there are women and men who every day, for a measly salary, risk their lives to defend citizens.
