The era of the new mayor of Sassari Giuseppe Mascia (Pd), elected in the first round of the local elections on 8 and 9 June with 31,096 preferences, began this afternoon in the municipal council hall of Palazzo Ducale.

The outgoing mayor, Nanni Campus, passed the tricolor sash to his successor. “To get here there is a lot of work, which is not just mine – began Mascia, addressing the large audience -. We ran with the idea of giving hope to the city, we will work hard and we will certainly encounter difficult moments, so help us to work well. We will seek the good of everyone in this city who lives, passes by, and to whom we leave this city.”

Mascia’s first task will be to appoint the Council, which announces that it intends to close in 15 days: “We will work hard this week with political discussions with the groups with which we won the elections, which are already underway. I plan to speed up as much as possible to have the council in two weeks.”

The division of the nine departments will be calibrated on the basis of the votes won by the seven lists of the centre-left coalition, and the Democratic Party with 20.51% of the preferences and 10 seats in the City Council out of the 21 of the majority, should make its voice heard. At least three departments should go to the Dems, two places should go to both Avs and the M5s; one each for the Progressives and for Futuro Comune.
