The naming ceremony of Largo Andrea Parrinello “Donn’Antria”, founder of the Olimpia Calcio sports club, will be held on Friday 21 June at 10.30 am in Marsala.

The Largo is the one between the “F. Bellina” and via degli Atleti. The event is organized by the Municipality of Marsala in collaboration with former Olimpia footballers: Rino Bonomo, Totuccio Cardinale, Giuseppe Colicchia, Emanuele Parisi and Salvatore Lo Grasso, who already in 2017 had organized the presentation of the book at the San Pietro Monumental Complex “Olimpia and Donn’Antria” – a legendary team and a master of football and life”, a volume that contains the memories and testimonies of many former footballers and people close to sport, who had the opportunity to get to know the mister Andrea Parrinello and the Olimpia Calcio founded and led by him.

A book that aimed to reconstruct the climate of ferment and trust that could be felt in Marsala around the 50s and 60s, those of reconstruction and the economic boom, of which the preface was edited by Nino Scalisi (professor of legal matters and director of ‘US Salemi Calcio from 1966 to 1975) and which contains the memorial contribution of the journalist Salvatore Lo Presti and of Nino Sammartano, teacher of literary subjects and member of the local council of the Salesian Cooperators association, in addition to the stories/testimony of the various members of the ‘Olimpia, to a photo gallery and a review of articles from the Giornale di Sicilia from the time dedicated to the team’s successes.

On June 21st, therefore, a journey undertaken some time ago by Andrea Parrinello’s students comes to fruition, which will culminate in this symbolic gesture intended to remember their Maestro with gratitude for his tireless commitment in the world of sport and education.

“The Olimpia he founded was not just a team – they say – but a family, where every boy could find support, encouragement and learn fundamental values such as respect, discipline, determination, solidarity and teamwork. His philosophy was simple but powerful: sport as a means of education and personal development”.

The former students themselves thank those who contributed to the realization of the initiative: the mayor of the Municipality of Marsala, Hon. Massimo Grillo, the members of the toponymy commission who, unanimously, decided to name a public place after Andrea Parrinello, the president of the city council, Enzo Sturiano and the Prefecture of Trapani, who initiated the procedure quickly.

Citizens are invited to participate.
