NewTuscia – ROME – At the Castelli Romani new events and site-specific shows will mark the last weeks of June for the fifth edition of Paesaggi del Corpo – International Contemporary Dance Festival: on 22 June, in the Casa delle Culture e della Musica of Velletri, after the presentation of Carmela Piccione’s latest book, 1960 Dance steps, will be staged by EgriBiancoDanza, Naturalis Labor and Art Garage; on June 30th, at the Cisternoni, the collaboration with the Municipality of Albano will continue, divided into a double format which first includes a guided tour of the ancient Roman water reserve and followed by performances by Asmed Balletto di Sardegna and Compagnia Atacama.

On June 22nd, at 5.00 pm at the Casa delle Culture e della Musica in Velletri, the presentation of the book 1960 Passi danza by Carmela Piccione, dedicated to the history of the Balletto di Roma Company, will be held. In conversation with the author, the editorial project of the volume will be explored in depth, framing ballet as a historiographical hub of the history of dance in dialogue with contemporary transformations.

At 6.30pm the dancing will begin with Sonic Hops, an experiment curated by EgriBiancoDanza and the METS – Conservatory of Cuneo. The historic Turin company offers an interactive performance of dance and hop sounds, which aims to reflect on K. Kelly’s essay, The Inevitable, outlining the twelve technological trends that are revolutionizing the world with an experimental and multidisciplinary approach. The avant-garde choreography makes use of compositions by Gianluca Verlingeri, elaborated from audio recordings made during the beer production process, and with the help of programmed sensors that will track the dancer’s gestures, reacting in real time to the sound stimuli.

Subsequently it will be time for Night Wolves, brought to the Festival by Naturalis Labor, a group from Vicenza which, in constant research on contemporary dance, continues to carry out numerous tours in Italy and Europe. Led by Luciano Padovani, the artists on stage like wolves in the night aim to recall our being animals, in a frenetic and engaging performance that intends to give substance to our deepest instincts.

The last part of the Veliterno appointment will be dedicated to Art Garage in Ipatia, a work directed by Laura Matano and Emma Cianchi. The Campania group, active nationally and internationally for over 15 years, presents a powerful and dynamic show that recalls the life of Hypatia of Alexandria, a woman astronomer, mathematician and philosopher, still today an emblem of freedom of thought and the fight against dogmas and to discrimination.

The dialogue between museum assets and dance will resume on 30 June at 6pm at the Cisternoni in Albano, where, after the visit to the archaeological site, Oscure luminescence by Asmed Balletto di Sardegna will be staged, the first Sardinian dance company to obtain recognition institutional. Aimed at the continuous experimentation and evolution of the multiple languages of contemporary dance, Lucas Delfino Monteiro and Flavia Dule illustrate how modern life is often inscribed in concentric, orderly and safe, yet isolated circles, which do not give access, except in the form of restlessness (the dark flashes of the title), to those chaotic external interferences that can instead generate new opportunities and possibilities.

The evening will come to an end with an event in which the multidisciplinary trait that has always characterized the event will be well represented by the meeting of dance with the other arts (poetry, literature and visual arts), in the preview of the new staging of the Atacama Company, Lost Solos, co-produced by the Festival. The choreographers and directors Patrizia Cavola and Iván Truol, who have been hosted on the most prestigious international stages since 1997, are inspired by the anomalous migratory route of some solitary birds away from their own flock, to meditate on the solitude and diversity that unites the destiny of many human beings.

Landscapes of the Body – International Contemporary Dance Festival is created by the cultural association La Scatola dell’Arte ETS with the contribution of MIC Ministry of Culture, of the Municipality of Albano, in collaboration with FONDARC Fondazione di Partecipazione Arte e Cultura Città di Velletri, in collaboration and with the patronage of the Municipality of Velletri and the Municipality of Rocca di Papa.
