“Open Fiber Tour”. The journey begins in Abruzzo, Marche and Sicily: a camper in the villages to promote digitalisation – il Fatto Nisseno

The journey of the Open Fiber campers between the villages of Abruzzo, Marche and Sicily has begun. Today he left “Open Fiber Tour”, the initiative which aims to promote technological development in areas once affected by the digital divide and now reached by ultra-fast optical fibre. The first double stage of the project which will run until early December in 50 municipalities of the three selected regions touches Apecchioin the province of Pesaro Urbino, e Venetian, in the Messina area. In these two centers which are now former white areas – areas without ultra-broadband connectivity – citizens can already obtain useful information and quickly activate the latest generation Internet connection, supported by qualified staff of the partner operators participating in the tour. For customers who sign the contract on the Open Fiber camper there is also a further opportunity: a 100 euro voucher valid for purchases through major large-scale retail trade or convertible into fuel vouchers.

“Our “Open Fiber Tour” has among its objectives the valorization of small municipalities – he declares Mauro Accroglianò, Residential Market Director of Open Fiber – optical fiber is in fact a fundamental element for the digitalisation and social promotion of the community. There FTTH networkunlike the mixed fiber and copper network (FTTC), guarantees levels of efficiency and stability that allow ultra-fast connections, over 1 Gigabit per second: with more services and greater speed, accessibility and reliability”.

“This initiative – underlines Accroglianò – takes on further value in the context of the increasingly close alliance between Open Fiber and the operators involved in the fiber optic market, a path of intense commercial collaboration which also sees us united in the implementation of vouchers aimed directly to end customers. The turning point for the digitalisation of the country lies in the full and conscious use of the most performing technologies, first and foremost Fiber-to-the-home”.

The ultra-fast network available in the municipalities crossed by “Open Fiber Tour” reaches over 130 thousand real estate units through FTTH technology (Fiber-to-the-home, the optical fiber extended right up to the inside of buildings), the only solution capable of guaranteeing connection speeds above 1 Gigabit per second. This is a strategic investment for the digitalisation of the territory which does not burden the budget of the municipalities involved. The technological infrastructure, in fact, was financed with regional and state funds as part of the Ultra Wide Band Plan (BUL) managed by Infratel Italia, a company of the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, with the coordination of Regions of Abruzzo, Marche and Sicily. The new network is and will remain public property. By clicking on https://openfiber.it/tour/ you can get more information and follow the stages of the “Open Fiber Tour”.

The fiber optic connectivity created by Open Fiber allows you to obtain numerous advantages thanks to access to a vast range of online services, as well as simplifying relations between citizens and public administrations and improving the productivity and competitiveness of small and medium-sized businesses. The potential of FTTH technology is also of fundamental importance in terms of eco-sustainability. Fully fiber optic networks like Open Fiber’s actually reduce the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
