Gennaro’s silence – Cosenza Post

“The good news is that we have started and therefore we have redeemed our Tutino”. Just two days have passed since this declaration by President Guarascio (even if it seems like centuries) and, given the series of events that followed one another in close succession, one wonders how we should even interpret that “our” referring to Gennaro. We have all translated it as “one of us” but the doubt arises whether it should instead be understood only as “of our property”.

However, to provide some clarity, I think it is necessary to rewind the tape. We need to go back to the end of the championship when, in the last match against Spezia, Tutino was suffocated by the heat of the rossoblù fans and raised to the kingship of a city and an entire fan base. On May 14th Gennaro received the “Marulla” prize awarded to him by the “Cosenza nel cuore” association and I saw him sincerely moved by the affection showered on him. And we arrive at May 24th when the mayor presented him with the city seal. It was precisely there that Guarascio announced to those present that he was preparing a bright future with Tutino. And the Neapolitan striker himself had remarked how Cosenza and Cosenza remained first in his thoughts.

Let’s go back to a few days ago when, in a completely unexpected way, Guarascio announced that he had bought Tutino from Parma after the contrary news had spread in recent days. In the city there is a blaze of joy which however ends in less than twenty-four hours, cut short by the vitriolic declarations of Mario Giuffredi, Tutino’s well-known prosecutor. The Neapolitan manager states that Tutino’s parable with Cosenza is over, that his client would like to play in Serie A and they even declare themselves surprised by the redemption as they were not warned. Only a few hours ago Giuffredi also wanted to make it known that Tutino’s contract is a two-year period and that therefore the player could reach an agreement with some other team, on a free transfer, in February 2026 (without specifying what Gennaro would do in the meantime). We thank Giuffredi for having refreshed the regulation of the players’ contracts and let’s move on. In the meantime, Viali also writes a few lines to greet the rossoblù fans and mentions the fact that, if the first time it had been his choice to leave the Cosenza bench, this time he would have almost been forced! (Then by whom? Given that Ursino declared that an extension of the contract had even been proposed to him. We await any denials on the matter). But this is just a side story.

In all of this Tutino remained locked in the darkest silence. No reaction to the news of the ransom, no denial of the prosecutor’s words. (To be fair, in the afternoon he posted the memory of the promotion in B six years ago in his Instagram stories!) But this silence made a lot of noise, given that Gennaro has always been very active on social media regarding the rossoblù colours. Some questions arise. Wasn’t Tutino himself the one who made those declarations of love in front of the mayor and an entire city less than a month ago? Was he perhaps trying to come out of it well, convinced that the president would never redeem him? I don’t want to believe it since several times I happened to see him really moved and sincerely connected to these colors. Could it be that he is angry about how the matter was handled? Could be. But it would be an anger that needs to be let off quickly, he owes it to his fans. What is certain is that Gennaro will certainly have to take a stand and answer the questions before they become too many and unmanageable. And before a love story between city and footballer is definitively polluted by money affairs and prosecutors.
