FRANKFURT (Germany) – At the European championships in Germany there is also a man from Spoleto who also wore the Foligno shirt during his career as a footballer.

It’s about Gianluca Segarelli, 46 years old, assistant coach of the Slovakia national team, led by Mister Francesco Calzona. The fairy tale officially began in November when the Slovaks beat Iceland 4 to 2, qualifying for the final phase.

From the first kicks in Spoleto to the European Championship in Germany, passing through Foligno, Pesaro and Naples
Gianluca started playing football in his hometown Spoleto and became a professional footballer in Serie B and Lega Pro. From Nestor Marsciano he moved to Perugia and then landed at Vis Pesaro. Padua, Ancona and then Foligno where he played two unforgettable seasons 2006-2008. The pinnacle of his career was in Cesena in Serie B and he finished as a professional at Alessandria. A midfielder of great temperament and professional seriousness, he moved to live in Pesaro and began a career as a coach. After the experience with Slovakia, while waiting for the European Championship, he closed the Serie A championship on the Napoli bench, always as Calzona’s assistant.

But now he is ready to live the European dream. Slovakia will make their debut tomorrow (Monday 17 July) at 6pm in Group E in Frankfurt against Belgium. On the second day they will face Ukraine in Dusseldorf, on 21 June at 3pm. The final match of the group will be against Romania, again in Frankfurt, on 26 June at 6pm.

Dreaming is not forbidden and certainly even in Spoleto and Foligno they will support Slovakia a bit…
