PAVIA. A near tragedy today (Sunday) at the seventh Cristoforo Colombo Memorial Trophy Nerino Bressan, Livio Nardin and Luigi Mella rowing on the Ticino, organized by Battellieri Colombo. In addition to the barcé race, the arrival of two Italian Maritime Aviation seaplanes, one red and the other orange, departed from Cizzago (Brescia) was expected. Around 12.30 the two seaplanes landed regularly, but one of the two, the orange one, then had problems.
Seaplane out of control after ditching, co-pilot injured
The seaplane approached the buoy, the pilot turned off the engine and descended to his left to attach the plane to the buoy, but was unable to complete the maneuver. At that point the seaplane was dragged by the current, turned and crashed into the Battellieri Colombo houseboat. The pilot got out, but the strong current moved the seaplane again. The co-pilot suffered an injury to her foot, but she managed to get out.
The current dragged the seaplane away, at which point two boats set off and managed to recover the plane, which suffered damage to one of its wings.
The 51-year-old co-pilot was rescued by healthcare workers from the Red Cross of Pavia and was taken to San Matteo by an ambulance for a suspected broken foot.
