The XXIII City of Lucca Tournament ended in the best possible way and the Lucca Basketball Club itself emerged victorious, dispelling a taboo that had persisted for some time, the intrinsic meaning of which was more or less this: “whoever organizes a tournament does not never wins.”

To dispel the taboo or cabal if you prefer, a team of aspiring Under 14 champions led by coaches Chiarello and Cappellini, in a perfect crescendo, first regulated Juve Pontedera, then the Union basketball Program, and again the ABC Castelfiorentino and in the final the very strong boys of the Dragons Junior Program, finishing in first place with 4 wins out of 4, the only team among the 8 participants to have succeeded.

A final, between BCl and Dragons which at the start of the match saw Chiarello’s boys immediately spread the score, only to be then caught up and caught up by the Dragons between the second and third periods.

Then in the last part of the third quarter, Bcl went into high gear, raised the percentages and took possession of the match, leading it without jolts until the end, closing it at 50/37.

However, the final was very hard fought to win 3rd and 4th place. On the pitch of the Palasport in Lucca, the strong ABC Castelfiorentino and the fearsome Valdelsa faced each other and managed to snatch third position by the skin of their teeth, winning over the very fierce ABC Castelfiorentino by 65/64.

The final for 5th and 6th place between Don Bosco and Union Basket was also fought, ending 73/52 and finally to define the 7th and 8th position Pontedera and Bellaria faced each other.

The XXIII Tournament of the City of Lucca ends with this ranking, a tournament that this year too was exciting and beautiful to see and follow. On the three fields of the Bcl, where we played, we could see many athletes – futuristic ones – surely among them there could be some kids who will play on future important parquets, the right incipits are there, for now, however, let’s be satisfied with the great show they gave at the Tournament.

The Tournament also remembered the figure of Danilo Corsi and in his memory, the winner was awarded to Mariella Ghilardi, as well as for the teams that finished on the other two steps of the podium, there were also cups for the other teams, a special prize it also went to the winner of the shooting competition 3, Noni Gabriel of Valdelsa. The ideal quintet, made up of the best players chosen from the 8 participating teams, was also awarded.

In closing, it is a duty to thank all the participating teams and those who gave a hand to the creation and logistics of this edition, the appointment for everyone is set for the next one, perhaps a week or two in advance of this edition.
