Crotone – After a long year of intense work in the area, the project Book Baby Boom is coming to an end. The objective pursued was to spread reading and its psychophysical and relational benefits among children in the undervalued 0-6 age group in such a way as to also build a social network among the families of the city. During this trip, the D’Ettoris Foundation and his partners, were accompanied from the Leggere Coccole association of Bariwhose operators took care of the training of Crotone staff and, in the winter phase of the project, of the reading guidance course dedicated to parents.

It was also explored in depth the therapeutic use of the book in contexts of fragility and disability, thanks to the precious advice, courses and seminars held by the psychologist and psychotherapist Leonarda Fascia. Continuous learning and maturation of skills are the key to well-being. The book, currently considered especially by the new generations as a tedious teaching tool, during the reading aloud workshops organized during the year, was instead proposed to children as a magical object – to be used in complete freedom – which allows to travel with the imagination, to explore, therefore to know, the surrounding environment and to express oneself at its best, and, to parents, as an emotional, relational and affective medium to be involved in the overall care of their little ones starting from gestation, time whose listening prepares you for the construction of a thriving family and cultural terrain.

Reading is educating on beauty and is a window on emotions and we are all witnesses of the joy and wonder felt by children – and parents – at every single encounter. The virtuous circles created through strategic partnerships and targeted organizations that could operate throughout the territory (Association Baubò, Bimbi a Bordo, Associazione Sabir, A. Lucifero municipal library, IC Don Milani, Fimp Crotone section), have contributed to realizing the objectives set and continue to this day with their activities – despite the end of the project on paper – to ingrain among families the importance of reading which, if self-sustaining over time, is the turning point for social change.

There D’Ettoris Foundation awaits you in the children’s reading room of the Pier Giorgio Frassati Library, from Monday to Friday, from 9.30 to 12.30, to spend a personal moment of reading with your children.
