‘Taranto municipality loses funding for nursery schools’

Maiorino: ‘If councilor Petrosillo is unable to guarantee resources for the city, he should resign’

The Liberal Party of Taranto expresses its disdain for the serious lack of responsibility and transparency demonstrated by the municipal administration regarding the funding for nursery schools provided for by Ministerial Decree no. 79 of 30 April 2024.

“The CISL FP has publicly denounced the failure of the Municipality of Taranto to participate in the supplementary funds intended for nursery schools, for an amount of 5.18 million euros. These funds were reserved for municipalities in which the percentage of nursery school services was less than 33%, a condition that Taranto fully satisfies with a sad 19%”, writes Mirko Maiorino, s.city secretary of the Italian Liberal Party.

In response to this complaint, councilor Petrosillo, councilor Fiusco’s representative on the council, made statements that were not only incorrect, but also full of bad faith. In fact, the PNRR construction sites of the Monaco di Talsano and Pastore di Paolo VI complexes, in addition to the construction of a kindergarten in the market area of the Paolo VI district, fall within the PUNQUA project and not in the Ministerial Decree in question. These statements attempt to divert attention from the reality of the facts, guiltily ignoring the lost opportunity that could have significantly improved services for Taranto families”, underlines Maiorino.

”The Liberal Party strongly condemns this lack of vision and the superficiality with which the resources allocated to improving children’s services have been managed. The funds allocated by Ministerial Decree n. 79 were a unique opportunity to further strengthen existing structures and create new reception opportunities for children, with 216 new places to be activated, while supporting families and encouraging the employment of women and new educators”, adds the city secretary of the PLI.

“We ask the municipal administration to take full responsibility for this serious failure and to provide detailed explanations as to how it was possible to miss such an important opportunity for our community. If Councilor Petrosillo fails to ensure that all the resources made available for our city are used, he will resign. The Liberal Party will remain vigilant and continue to monitor the administration’s work, with the aim of ensuring transparency and correctness in the management of public resources”, concludes Mirko Maiorino.
