There is the official alignment, in view of the ballot in Foligno next week in which the new mayor will be decided, between Moreno Finamonti’s list and the candidate Mauro Masciotti. Today, the declaration of connection between the centre-left mayoral candidate and the “La Voce di Foligno” list for the run-off on Sunday 23 and Monday 24 June was presented to the general secretariat of the Municipality of Foligno. A decision that comes the day after Enrico Presilla’s (Alternativa Popolare) announcement of support, but in an external way, for the centre-right candidate and outgoing mayor Stefano Zuccarini.
On Sunday morning it was Finamonti himself who argued the decision to join forces, after appeals from both Masciotti and Zuccarini.
“Regarding Mayor Zuccarini’s statement, – these are the words of the candidate from La Voce di Foligno – who only now recognizes the undersigned’s affinity with his political line, when in reality he never wanted to listen to and support any of our initiatives for the city, thus demonstrating the lack of coherence and last minute opportunism always permeated by the lack of humility that distinguishes it; I believe I have to make my choice thinking exclusively of the good of our community. On the one hand, I see a mayor who is aiming exclusively for his second and final mandate and having seen the inadequacy of his work in these five years, I am convinced that he will do nothing for Foligno other than the usual vested interests in the certainty that he will have to leave at the end anyway.
On the other hand, – continues Finamonti – there is a heterogeneous centre-left, with a strong moderate area where several people already experienced in administration stand out and with whom I believe I am more similar, who, having learned the lessons of 2019, will certainly work to give continuity to his administration, knowing that otherwise the voters will be able to “send them home” after five years. After a pleasant conversation with the candidate Masciotti who reached me personally, we parted with the promise to make a difference and therefore to choose the team only for competence and ability, the “conditio sine qua non” of my support, which is not clearly occurred during the Zuccarini administration. I therefore invite my voters to make these important considerations by supporting the only party that can serve their interests.
In the event of victory, we will be there to guarantee that what we promised is achieved, always fighting to safeguard the now collapsing local public health system, the main reason for our entry into the field.”
