POTENZA – “I don’t think it’s an admissible offer. It’s hard to digest because it doesn’t do justice to the political role of “La Basilicata Possible”. The split that is shaking the progressive front in view of the ballot on 23 and 24 June is contained in the words of Francesco Giuzio. For Vincenzo Telesca, the centre-left mayoral candidate who reached the second round, what is possible with Giuzio and Pierluigi Smaldone (the other mayoral candidate in the first round), is only the political agreement and not the technical affinity. A path which, however, does not appear viable for the two candidates, above all because, if through alignment their lists would participate in the assignment of the seats linked to the majority bonus, with the simple political agreement this becomes impossible (leaving only the lists in support of Telesca the extra seats in case of victory). Which explains the meetings, the meetings, the negotiations that have been going on for days to try to find a synthesis. Certainly, the countdown has begun and by today the political forces will have to formalize their positions on the issue. Meanwhile, the election campaign continues. And Telesca himself confirms that he is working in a state of “happiness” with the result achieved in this first electoral phase. “We are continuing to deal with the issues that were discussed in the electoral campaign, we are trying to involve citizens to make them understand what we want to do for the future of Potenza” highlights Telesca who arrived in the second round with 32.4 percent of the votes.

In the midst of the electoral campaign, the centre-right has also expanded to include moderate forces which, after having closed the ranks of the coalition parties, is moving straight ahead, with the aim of winning and obtaining the majority prize which would allow the seven lists supporting Fanelli to increase their number of those elected to the City Council, also by virtue of the changes linked to councilor positions. An aspect that is not secondary, especially if also intertwined with the repercussions that the victory in Potenza would have at a regional level. And it is precisely the unity and compactness of the conservative front that Fanelli himself highlights, in the second round with 40.6 percent of the votes, as one of the distinctive elements of his coalition compared to that of the centre-left. “We are united, united from the first moment – underlines the centre-right mayoral candidate – We are trying to travel around the city, meeting many citizens, recording the enthusiasm that is growing around our project which aims to relaunch the city of Potenza. A city of services that wants to be a point of reference for the entire region, a city that wants to become increasingly attractive.”
