Don Tonino’s funeral tomorrow

The funeral of Monsignor Antonio Renzi, known to all as Don Tonino, parish priest of the Lugo hamlet of Belricetti for 65 years, will take place tomorrow morning in the Church of Carmine in Imola. He passed away last Tuesday evening at the age of 93 at the ‘Toniolo’ hospital in Bologna, where he had been hospitalized for days. Giovanni Mosciatti, bishop of the Diocese of Imola, will celebrate the funeral mass at approximately 9.15am. At the end we will continue to the Piratello cemetery.

Since yesterday morning (Saturday) the body of Don Tonino, who over the course of his long life, in addition to having taught religion in the middle schools of Lugo, held the position of director of the Museum and Diocesan Archives of Imola, has been exhibited in the church parish church (built in 1686 and dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus), of ‘his’ Belricetto, where in the evening a mass was celebrated and the rosary celebrated. Among parishioners from the small hamlet of Lugo and neighboring towns, as well as among priests and simple friends, there were many people who wanted to give him a final emotional farewell. Born in Imola on 19 September 1930, Don Tonino was ordained a priest by the coadjutor bishop Monsignor Benigno Carrara in the Imola cathedral of San Cassiano on 28 June 1955. Nine years ago he was appointed chaplain to his Holiness with the title of monsignor.
