Appia Week 2024 in Venosa important event organized by the Club for UNESCO of Vulture, Venosa city of culture, Ctg group Venosa, Special Olympics Basilicata and the Venosa-Bernalda Trinitarian Fathers Rehabilitation Center at the pedo relay that crosses the heart of Italy, from Lazio to Puglia touching Campania and Basilicata. The Venosa stage enjoys the patronage of the Archaeological Superintendency of Fine Arts and Landscape of Basilicata and the Municipality of Venosa, an event that is part of the European archeology days recognized by the MIC. The ancient Via Appia is a historical treasure that has fascinated for centuries, and each year, the Appia Week event offers a unique opportunity to explore it. The Appia Antica, one of the most famous streets of ancient Rome, built in 312 BC by Appius Claudius Caecus, also known as the “Regina Viarum” or “Queen of the streets”, connected Rome to Brindisi and represented an important communication channel of the time.
The departure from the small Sanzanello church was festive and friendly where the participants were able to taste the bread with the official symbol of the Appian Way with organic oil and acquire historical information on the street nominated for UNESCO heritage thanks to the presence of the archaeologist Tonia Giammatteo. Particularly beautiful and exciting was the participation of the children with disabilities from the rehabilitation center of the Trinitarian Fathers, bearers of both the Roman column, the official relay of Appia Week, and the message of peace and inclusion that must resonate strongly throughout time and history.
