Ilaria Salis arrived in Italy, returning by car with her father Roberto to Monza: the video of the return

Ilaria Salis has returned to Italy. After an eight-hour car journey from Budapest, the MEP arrived at her parents’ house in Monza. Father Roberto, who left Hungary with her, told the dozens of journalists waiting for them “a nightmare is over”. Just a smile from the 39-year-old teacher, on trial in Budapest on charges of attacking far-right militants.

The newly elected MEP from the ranks of Avs arrived at her parents’ house around 7.15pm on Saturday 15 June, returning to Italy after more than 16 months of detention in Hungary, between prison and the last period under house arrest, after the arrest with accused of participating in the attack on three far-right militants at a neo-Nazi demonstration in Budapest in February 2023.

The family took a photo in front of the sign indicating the entrance to Monza. Roberto Salis declared that the trip “went very well. Ilaria is very tired and worn out. She has undergone the torture that you all know about, so she will take some time to rest.”

The return of Ilaria Salis

Following the election to the European Parliament, on Friday 14 June the Hungarian judge Jozsef Sos granted immunity by suspending the trial against Ilaria Salis, who thus removed the electronic bracelet she had had since 23 May, when she left prison to go under house arrest.

“Ilaria won’t speak today, she’s upset“, explained Roberto Salis, adding that “now he has to have two birthday parties because he has to make up for last year’s one”.

“There is a lot of emotion but now I resign as spokesperson for Ilaria ed I leave the scene completely” added the teacher’s father.

“Some things remain to be put in place because the trial has been suspended in any case. Now we have to make sure he comes this accusation was cancelled therefore Ilaria believes she is innocent” said Roberto Salis, reported by Handle.
