He repudiated his wife with whom he had lived in Italy for years because the woman did not submit enough. She discovered this a year later when she decided to start divorce proceedings. The case exploded in Ancona, where the woman, a Bangladeshi in her early 30s, turned to the law firm of lawyers Andrea Nobili and Bernardo Becci.
For some time she has been in a protected facility in the province of Ancona, with her minor children because she reported her husband for mistreatment and injuries (he is on his second trial for these crimes).
“We learned this yesterday, when we went to get the marriage details from the municipality, at the registry office”, explains the lawyer Andrea Nobili, “where we found a Bengali document certifying that they are no longer married and therefore both are free”.
The woman was repudiated according to the Islamic rite. A practice that has no value in Italy. “We have prepared an appeal to the court of Ancona, civil section, for the recognition of the rights of the lady and her minor children”, explains the lawyer, “highlighting the non-existence, for our legal system, of an Islamic ruling contrary to mandatory rules of law and fundamental rights as it derives from forms of obscurantism”.
In the deposited document, transmitted from Bangladesh, and whose act dates back to May 2023, a year ago, the husband of the woman of Bangladeshi origin, a 41-year-old compatriot of hers, who is a worker, indicated the reasons for the repudiation. After the marriage the woman would not have behaved like a good wife “she did not treat me like a husband, she did not give me the full respect that is usually given to the husband, she was insubordinate (she failed to obey orders, ed.) , committed adultery,” he had the man verbalized in his country’s act describing how his wife would have preferred to live her life without taking care of him as he hurt.
Therefore thinking about his “future life” the husband resolved “in the Islamic way, divorcing her by pronouncing the triple formula of repudiation. The two were married in 2008 in Bangladesh, then lived in Ancona. They were arranged marriage.
