Increasingly difficult situation in prisons, the Carabinieri SIM hopes for immediate rules to protect penitentiary colleagues
Ragusa. The SIM Carabinieri expresses its heartfelt feelings of closeness and solidarity to the colleagues of the Penitentiary Police of the Ragusa Prison who were attacked by a foreign national inmate who had staged a suicide attempt. When the police, who promptly rushed to help him, entered the detention room, the man reacted with unprecedented fury and began kicking and punching them, also using a blunt object obtained from the electrical socket in the room. . The attacked colleagues sought hospital medical treatment, suffering various injuries. In particular, one of the two was treated with several stitches to his face and head. The prognosis is guarded. Seven days of prognosis, however, for the other colleague who intervened. A very serious fact that highlights the countless risks faced by all colleagues who work to protect safety. The violent attack that occurred in the Ragusa prison was not an isolated case, just a few days ago in the Ariano Irpino prison 5 officers were injured following the attack of an inmate and not to forget the many episodes that involve the operators on a daily basis of all the police forces involved in the national territory in defense of institutions and citizens. Probably when it happened it could have been avoided: exactly one month has passed since personnel from the Hyblaean Penitentiary Police informed local institutions that they were unable to guarantee the safety of the institution due to lack of personnel, but the cry of alarm did not help to avoid the ‘happened. The SIM Carabinieri joins the unions of the penitentiary police in denouncing the serious situation of the Italian prisons and hopes that the institutions will intervene quickly starting from making up for the serious organic deficiencies, in addition to those of the Penitentiary Police also of the other police forces present throughout the territory.
