“An agronomist appointed director of the Archaeological Park of Morgantina and Villa Romana del Casale! Certain things can only happen in Sicily.”

The choice on the agronomist Nicotra

This is the comment of the regional parliamentarian of the Democratic Party, Fabio Venezia regarding the appointment of Carmelo Nicotra, 64 years old, originally from Caltagirone, which took place at the hands of the regional councilor for cultural heritage, Francesco Paolo Scarpinato. The new director graduated in 1986 from the University of Catania in Agricultural Sciences, also obtaining a degree in Tropical and Subtropical Agricultural Sciences in Ragusa in 2002. Since 1987 he has been qualified as an agronomist.

Venice, “we asked for a technical profile”

“Four months later – said the regional deputy of the Democratic Party – since the retirement of the old director we had asked, through a parliamentary question, to proceed urgently with the appointment of the new one, choosing a profile suited to the importance and prestige of the Park which is also a UNESCO site. We note that for the umpteenth time it was the logic of political subdivision that prevailed and not wide-ranging and competent choices. Yet another mortification for Sicily and its extraordinary cultural heritage”
