anger and indignation on social media

There is a typical Carrara expression: “It lasted as long as a pumpkin in the pig’s mouth” (it lasted as long as a courgette in the mouth of a pig) which is recurring on the various social pages of the city, in relation to the shameful act of vandalism which, a few hours after the inauguration of the White Carrara, ruined the sculpture “Anna G”, a tribute of Sagevan to the well-known Alessi brand. The work which reproduces an iconic design element – the famous corkscrew designed by Alessandro Mendini for Alessi in 1994 with a silhouette reminiscent of a woman – was damaged twice during the night between 14 and 15 June and this morning he appeared with the two levers of the corkscrew broken. The marble reproduction of Anna G., a steel corkscrew whose cost today is around 90 euros, was made in Statuario Venato Marble by the Sa.Ge.Van company. of Carrara, who wanted to pay homage to the object that has become ‘cult’, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of its first appearance in the Alessi collections. Mendini, the designer who designed Anna G, in turn, wanted to pay homage to women. The success of Anna G’s smiling face was immediate and gave rise to a series of kitchen objects designed by Alessi. The marble version of Anna G was presented this year at the Salone del Mobile in Milan and, despite the thousands of visitors, the work remained perfectly unscathed. Exhibiting it in Carrara – his hometown – it had a runtime of less than eight hours. A flood of indignant comments condemning the gesture is invading Facebook and Instagram. Among all it is worth mentioning one who says: “…and are you happy now?? God, your walls are made of silk so you can’t untie the buttigia!” which translated is: “…and are you happy now? God wish I died of thirst so I couldn’t open a bottle!”. Caustic, but true.
