Officers of the Penitentiary Police of the Ragusa Prison were attacked by a foreign national prisoner who had staged a suicide attempt. When the police, who promptly rushed to help him, entered the detention room, the man reacted with unprecedented fury and began kicking and punching them, also using a blunt object obtained from the electrical socket in the room. .
The attacked officers, who were injured, required hospital medical treatment, one of the two was treated with several stitches to his face and head. The prognosis is guarded. Seven days of prognosis, however, for the other colleague who intervened.
The serious event happened yesterday, the violent inmate basically faked a hanging, as soon as the Officers came in to help him, he attacked them, apparently armed with a sharp piece of hard plastic. Only by a pure miracle did one of the two injured men not lose an eye.

The violent attack that occurred in the Ragusa prison is not an isolated case, just a few days ago in the Ariano Irpino prison 5 officers were injured following the attack of an inmate and not to forget the many episodes that daily involve the operators of all police forces involved in the national territory in defense of institutions and citizens. Probably what happened could have been avoided: a month has passed – we read again in the press release – since personnel from the Iblean Penitentiary Police informed local institutions that they were unable to guarantee the safety of the institution due to lack of personnel, but the cry of alarm it did not prevent the incident. The SIM Carabinieri joins the unions of the penitentiary police in denouncing the serious situation of the Italian prisons and hopes that the institutions will intervene quickly starting from making up for the serious organic deficiencies, in addition to those of the Penitentiary Police also of the other police forces present throughout the territory. It is essential to ensure the human resources necessary for the protection of the territory and to guarantee the safety of operators and it is even more so in light of the social problems, to raise the level of safety perceived by citizens.
