Donating blood is donating life. It may seem like a cliché, but in reality the demand for blood in hospitals is constant and becomes a real emergency, especially in summer. In this period, in fact, there is always a decline in donations due to factors related to the heat or travel to holiday resorts, but the need for blood remains constant, especially among chronic patients who live thanks to the generosity of donors. The need for blood remains, therefore, and the FSP provincial secretary of Caltanissetta Fabio Fazzi, an Avis volunteer and donor for more than 20 years, who has undertaken a fruitful and constant collaboration with the president of Avis Caltanissetta Gaetano Giambusso, knows this well.
A sincere collaboration aimed at the common good which sees the two organizations supporting each other in the most difficult moments; In fact, the appeals to donate during critical periods which were collected by the women and men of the State Police on several occasions over the years did not go unheeded. And the closeness of Avis Caltanissetta to the State Police during the pandemic cannot be forgotten, with the donation of personal protective equipment in a period in which they were unobtainable.
Raising awareness of donation and making people understand its vital importance was the mantra of Giuseppe Brunco, FSP policeman and donor for years, who last summer traveled more than 1000km by bicycle starting from Caltanissetta and touching Santa Croce Camerina, Catania, Patti, Capaci , Sciacca returning again to Caltanissetta via Enna.
This important collaboration continues today and in fact yesterday on the occasion of World Donor Day, 14 June of each year, Avis Caltanissetta donated a defibrillator to be given to the women and men of the patrols of the Caltanissetta State Police. Present at the meeting were the police commissioner of Caltanissetta Pinuccia Albertina Agnello, the president of Avis Caltanissetta Gaetano Giambusso, the provincial general secretary of the FSP Caltanissetta State Police Fabio Fazzi, the Avis Health Director Dr. Benedetto Trobia, the doctor and nurse of the Police Headquarters Health Office directed by Dr. Salvatore Di Benedetto and the Director of the General Prevention and Public Relief Office Deputy Commissioner Maria Romano as well as some volunteers and Avis managers and the policeman Giuseppe Brunco.
A precious gesture that reminds us of the importance of being an active part in the area even through small gestures that make a difference in the life of the community. The women and men of the FSP State Police, who, being constantly present on the road, are fully aware of the importance of spending themselves for the territory and for the community, make a heartfelt invitation to donate, a source of life for many patients.
