ANCONA – Giuseppe Santoleri takes his own life in prison: the elderly man was serving 18 years, together with his son Simone, for the murder of the painter Renata Rapposelli, his ex-wife and Simone’s mother. The woman lived in Ancona, in via della Pescheria; she was a painter and was called “Reny” by her friends. During the night, according to reports from Gennarino De Fazio, general secretary of the Uilpa Penitentiary Police, Giuseppe Santoleri, 77, decided to end it all by suffocating himself in his bed.

Santoleri was locked up after his final 18-year sentence for the murder of his ex-wife Renata Rapposelli, a Theatinian who had moved to Ancona, with his son Simone, who was also convicted and detained. The crime occurred on 9 October 2017 in Giulianova. That day Renata had made it known that she had left the Doric station to reach Giulianova, where her ex-husband and son lived. Precisely that day, shortly after her arrival at the Santoleri home, Reny was killed by strangulation and asphyxiation. It would have been an argument for financial reasons (the painter was asking for around 3 thousand euros in maintenance arrears) that triggered the crime.

The body was found three months later in the countryside of Tolentino, in the Macerata area. Giuseppe Santoleri was sentenced in the first instance to 24 years in prison, a sentence later reduced to 18 years in the second instance. According to the judges, the perpetrator of the painter’s crime was her son Simone, sentenced to 27 years in prison.
