Bari, roar in the night: thieves blow up ATMs

A roar that abruptly interrupted the sleep of all the residents of the area, extensive damage to the structure, but thieves forced to run away empty-handed. It happened last night in Bari, at number 73 of Viale della Repubblica, where around 3 am a gang of criminals blew up the ATM of a branch of the BPM Group – Banca Popolare di Novara.

The bandits used the ‘marmot technique’, inserting explosives into the slot of the automatic teller machine: the ATM, however, instead of exploding, actually imploded. The arrival of a security guard, at the same time as the arrival of a carabinieri patrol with sirens blaring, put the thieves to flight and they were unable to take away even a single euro. All relevant investigations into the episode are underway, with the investigations evidently starting from the analysis of surveillance images of the area. Another ATM was blown up in Bitonto at the crack of dawn. In this case, however, the coup was successful: around 50 thousand euros stolen.
