The explosion of the battery of an electric bike caused a fire in a garage in via Girondi, at the intersection with via Rizzitelli, in the center of Barletta. The episode occurred on Friday evening after 10pm, when the electric vehicle was parked inside one of the rooms of the building.
No one was involved in the accident, but the explosion of the battery caused great fear among residents of the area, who saw flames and smoke enveloping the surrounding buildings. Dozens of residents poured into the street, in a state of panic, as they waited for the arrival of the firefighters, who arrived on site a few minutes after the battery exploded.
The firefighting operations were coordinated by two rescue teams, supported by a vehicle from the BAT Provincial Command and by a Carabinieri patrol which guarded an area of approximately 50 meters around the accident site. The fire was put out shortly after 11pm, but the consequences on road traffic were significant, with congestion also affecting the surrounding arteries.
The origin of the fire was clearly identified as the explosion of the electric bike’s battery, a situation that raises concerns about the safety of electrical devices and the places where they are stored. The proximity to the town center has amplified the danger, highlighting the need for more rigorous preventive measures to avoid the repetition of similar episodes.
Fire brigade experts and municipal technicians are now assessing the structural damage caused by the fire. The area has been made safe and residents have been asked to remain calm and follow the instructions of the authorities. Investigators are also trying to understand whether there was negligence in the maintenance of the electrical device that could have contributed to the accident.
