Improvements to the Soverato hospital will begin in autumn. This is what emerged from a meeting between the Catanzaro ASP, led by the commissioner Antonio Battistini and the Municipality of Soverato, led by the mayor Daniele Vaccain which they confronted each other on the works in progress, carried out partly thanks to budget funds and partly from Por funds.
The spaces dedicated to semi-intensive care and oncology places are in an advanced stage of construction, already decided last spring after discussions between the President of the Region Roberto Occhiutothe Regional Councilor Antonio Montuoro and the mayor Daniele Vacca. In addition to these, the construction of three new operating rooms is being completed, as well as spaces dedicated to diagnostics and the expansion of the Emergency Department, where the “Warm Room” will be built, with the consequent re-engineering of all the internal environments, for a total value of approximately 2.8 million euros.
These works will allow for the optimization of other environments and the reopening of the “birth center”. The birth center is certainly the most awaited innovation by citizens, since Soverato was a point of reference for many internal areas including the province of Vibo and the Alto Reggio Emilia area, as evidenced by the significant number of births that were performed before the closure in 2019 ; at the time, for the closure measure, the need for infrastructural work was decisive rather than the number of births: births took place below the ministerial threshold due to lack of space, not due to lack of users or skills.
The internal works are already at an advanced stage of completion; for the works at the Emergency Room it was agreed to proceed with an initial reorganization that does not jeopardize its activities during the peak summer period, and then accelerate as early as September 1st. The reopening of the birth center, the ASP of Catanzaro further specifies, is part of the implementations permitted by the hospital network plan, conceived in such a way as to grant, in the face of objective and motivated needs, remodulations that help generate the standards necessary to provide the most appropriate assistance.
