2 more hours of overtime for law enforcement at the G7, the unions intervene

“The communication arriving from the Ministry of the Interior announcing the increase in overtime hours for the police forces employed in Brindisi, on the occasion of the G7, has all the appearance of a sop for the inconvenience suffered. For USIF, which immediately interested the Government to denounce the serious hygiene, health and housing deficiencies of the staff, it would be necessary not to place limits on the overtime hours that will be carried out in these days and which will certainly be many more than those counted, not only for new accommodation arrangements and the related distances from the place of service. Furthermore, we ask that full light be shed on this matter to clearly identify the responsibilities because, once again, those who paid the price were our colleagues who, through their qualified work, ensure the necessary safety framework foreseen for the G7. All the personnel sent to the area, in fact, are highly specialized (green berets, dog handlers and personnel from the Air and Naval Division) and in the hours immediately following the reports received regarding the precarious logistical conditions, we immediately reported the matter and the inconvenience suffered by our soldiers to the competent bodies, also activating the sampling service for legionella bacteria in the ship’s water systems and ventilation system.

While on the front line on site, our managers, including the USIF Puglia Regional Secretary – Angelo Delcuratolo, the Provincial Secretary of Brindisi – Daniele Summa and the local territorial managers, detected and documented everything that was happening, also working for all problems and support colleagues. However, in light of what happened, the appeal to the institutions is not to place limits on overtime for uniformed staff who continue to work for the G7 event. The Government will necessarily have to take all of this into account also when renewing contracts, ensuring that workers in uniform receive the right salary recognition, adequately commensurate with the risks and responsibilities, and also financing overtime work with specific allocations”. This was communicated in a note by the General Secretariat of the Italian Union of Financiers (USIF)
