Summer is approaching, but – especially in a seaside tourism destination like Cagliari – art doesn’t go on holiday. We have collected three exhibitions with different themes and locations, from the multidisciplinary one by Gabriella Locci at the Galleria Comunale to an exhibition on the history of the hat in the lobby of a hotel, passing through the foundry of a mine which houses works of contemporary art.

The works of Gabriella Locci at the Municipal Gallery of Cagliari
A tireless experimenter active above all in the field of artistic graphics, Gabriella Locci is interested in investigating the relationship between space and time but also the relationship between work and spectator. Her work is a precise investigation into matter and possible contaminations, where space becomes a tool for exploring the creative process. The pulsating matter combines with swirling graphemes that punctuate the surface to arrive at unexpected lyricism embodied by details visible only at a second glance. While the interaction between past and present and that between light and shadow is aimed at scrutinizing the meanders of memory.
The exhibition, which reconstructs the artist’s journey over the last fifteen years, including woodcuts, intaglio techniques and paintings, promoted by the Municipal Administration of Cagliari, is curated by Olga Scotto di Vettimo.

The second phase of Memory Dust
Anticipated by the first phase which took place in 2022 in the Cristian Castelnuovo Photographic Center in Cagliari, the project of the Castia Art Collective, which combines painting, photography, sculpture and installations, moves to the spaces of the foundry of the Montevecchio mining complex with various additions. The doors Of Enrica Badas, abstract-geometric digital works printed on canvas with pictorial interventions; the table football of Davide Volponi which substitutes footballers for a series of miners on a playing field covered in coal and minerals; the mugs with the canaries of Josto Mura, unaware sacrificial victims. Curated by photographer Cristian Castelnuovo who reworked a series of shots taken from defective negatives found in the archives of the Carbonia mine, the project saw, among others, the participation of Andrea Forges Davanzati with Icaruslarge steel sculpture, Cicci Borghi, Romeo Pinna And Carlo Nieddu Arrica.

The history of the hat on display in Cagliari
The collaboration between TArt, the Fondazione del Teatro Lirico and the Antica Cappelleria Martello was born Get it into your head, a project focused on the accessory par excellence with an ancient history: the hat. A cultural symbol that identifies belonging, the hat has taken on different shapes and styles over the centuries, becoming a witness of a specific era and an emblem of a social status. About a hundred hats from different eras were placed in the hall of the T Hotel with the aim of tracing their evolution through the most iconic models. These were accompanied by 23 works on the theme created by painters, photographers, ceramists and illustrators including Daniele Serra and Gianluca Marjani. The project is curated by Giorgia Bistrusso, Giovanni Ottonello, Tramare and TArt.
