The mayor extends the ordinance on kestrel nesting

Orbetello (Grosseto). The mayor of Orbetello extends until 31 July 2024 the ordinance to protect the nesting of a pair of kestrels (falco tinnunculus), prohibiting the affected area in Ansedonia to avoid the risk of disturbing the reproduction of birds.

The ordinance prohibits the area near the natural amphitheater outside the entrance to the Spacco della Regina, in Ansedonia. The ordinance was issued to allow the nesting of a pair of kestrels, which could have abandoned the nest due to human disturbance. The extension was necessary as the organization received a note from the president of the WWF of the province of Grosseto, who communicated that the nesting activities are still ongoing.

“Administration – explains the mayor of Orbetello Andrea Casamenti – it is very sensitive to the protection of the animal species present in the area and the presence of small specimens of kestrels can constitute a source of considerable tourist attraction, especially in the summer period, therefore we considered it necessary to temporarily extend the ban on the area affected by the event, from any operation that may cause disturbance”

The geographical area concerned is delimited on site with wooden stakes fixed And red and white ribbon andd is temporarily closed and access to it for any reason is prohibited.

Representatives of environmental associations interested in the event, such as WWF, Legambiente, Occhio in Oasi association, are authorized to monitor the area, where necessary.

Finally, the administration makes it known that the Municipal Police is responsible for verifying compliance with the provision and that, in the event of non-compliance with the ordinance being ascertained, the subsequent provisions of competence will be evaluated at the expense of those responsible, without prejudice to criminal prosecution for any crimes committed.
