While waiting to resolve the Vivarini (and Magalini) issue, Catanzaro continues to plan its future with a new coach. The search for the coach is the priority issue, not because the sporting director is less important, but because the next occupant of the bench is part of the ballet that is taking place in recent days: the club cannot therefore afford to waste any more time.
Alberto Aquilani is always the first choice in via Gioacchino da Fiore. Not the only one (alternative ideas are Cristian Bucchi and Moreno Longo), but the most popular. It was this winter, when it was hypothesized that Vivarini could ask to leave by capitalizing on the work of the last two years (but never, ever in the way he did three days ago). He became one again as soon as the break with the Abruzzo coach took place in the offices of president Noto. Interested calls have been made from Catanzaro regarding the forty-year-old, a profile that is very popular for at least three reasons: he is young and wants to emerge after his first season among the pros with Pisa; he develops proactive football, focused on possession (it is no coincidence that last summer he tried in every way to “steal” Ghion), so he could guarantee a certain technical continuity with the last two seasons; he willingly works with young people after a period of fruitful apprenticeship in Fiorentina’s youth team, from Under 17 to Primavera (with three Italian Cups and two Super Cups under his belt).
In short, it is considered the ideal identikit to reveal a legacy, however heavy, as that of Vivarini. Aquilani would also be looked upon favorably in the locker room if we consider that Iemmello – the undisputed leader of the group – was his teammate at Sassuolo in 2017: the striker was in his first experience in Serie A (with Di Francesco as coach), the anchor Roman midfielder faced the penultimate stage of his career as a footballer.
